Working on my portfolio for photo-media this week. My 20 images for Vanitas still life. I started to work on my TAFE and University studies Vanitas. I feel I didn't do too well as I would like to have as I was being rushed a little to get all my objects together which I wanted to take to University studios to photograph and then I forgot a few things. My friend was taking a photograph of me for her project, so I was trying to kill two birds with one stone. Her photos turned out great. Mine on the other hand weren't as good as I expected them to be.
My plan for my vanitas is to photograph the objects and then use textures over them, playing in Photoshop to produce the final image. This is what I enjoy doing most. I was starting to get cold feet on the theme I have chosen but I am unsure of what else to do at this stage and time will run out soon. An example of my work I created is below:

I found a texture online searching for free textures. I feel it works pretty good but I think I want to try to make some of my own textures to go with my vanitas. Seeing we have to do 20 images though, I think my goal will be 10 textures and see how I go with time.
I did the above image first, and then I took some objects away to create a different type of composition, as my fellow friend and student, suggested to have only a few objects and see what it looks like. I like both images however I feel maybe the one with the most objects fit the vanitas theme in a more appropriate way.

Reflecting on my art practice and working on my photomedia portfolio I am starting realize my direction within the art industry.
(multi-skilled artist) - I feel this may be my direction
ART THERAPY - I would like to look into this more apparently there is a external course through a university down south. There is nothing in Townsville at this stage.
Notes....
creative arts industries
Performancetheater/film - dance - music
art/design
fine arts - photography - design
text
literature - scripts (advert scripts)
within each area are a variety of employment areas
- administration eg. ticketing, pays, program development etc
government organizations and large companies.
- arts work eg. actual work you do as an artist
- marketing eg. market artist, literate agents, etc.
- education eg. companies, galleries. museums educational officers, to link the public, and schools
- community arts eg. educator or facilitator. eg. life line, woman center, head space, flexible learning center and organizations
the difficulty with diversity - jack of all trades master of none. However in a regional area, its classed to be multskilled there is not enough work for one area of expertise.
are we going to specialize? if we are going to specialize in one area some questions to ask yourself.
-where are the greatest job opportunities?
-what will give you the greatest opportunity for growth ?
-which areas/skills are you most competent?
-and most confident?
-which activities give you the most pleasure?
As I mentioned in last weeks post, I feel I do not have a specialty as yet in my time of my art journey. However I am starting to reflect and realize the reas I am more confident in and enjoy doing the most. These areas are photography and visual arts, fine art photography.
